Blake Murphy, MD, PhD, FRCSC

Dr. Blake Murphy is a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada. Blake completed his undergraduate degree at Simon Fraser University and then his PhD in Medical Biophysics at the University of Western Ontario. Following this, he completed medical school at the University of Ottawa and Plastic Surgery residency at the University of Toronto. Following residency, he added a one year Craniofacial Fellowship in Miami, Florida and then a one year Microsurgery and Breast Reconstruction at University Health Network. His clinical practice focuses on trauma and oncology reconstruction, with particular focus on craniofacial surgery and breast reconstruction.

Blake’s research interest includes augmented reality applications in surgery and he is appointed as an Affiliate Scientist at Techna Institute, University Health Network. The focus of the research group is on the development of augmented reality applications for surgical education. In addition, we have an interest in augmented reality and its application to surgical planning including patient specific surgical plans. Beyond these applications, we are working toward a system that can be integrated into the clinical setting for intra-operative navigation and feedback.
